Old Salem Moravian Village. Old Salem is a restoration of the Moravian community of Salem that was started in 1766. The Moravians are a Protestant faith that began in the 1400s in the province of Moravia, which is now part of the Czech Republic. From an earlier settlement in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, they came to the colony of North Carolina in 1753.
